Day 365 – Outside The Wall

All alone or in twos
The ones who really love you
Walk up and down outside the wall.
Some hand in hand.
Some gathered together in bands.
The bleeding hearts and the artists
Make their stand.
And when they’ve given you their all
Some stagger and fall
After all it’s not easy
Banging your heart
Against some mad bugger’s wall.

Thank you to everyone for making this year even bigger than the first. Thanks to all of you who submitted suggestions,
bought prints, left comments, and participated in the contests. Special thanks to David, Mona, Sandra, Monica, & Don,
whose donations made it possible to purchase the box of bricks to complete this last photo. You all made it a hell of a lot of fun
once again to spend and entire year consumed by LEGO. Not that that’s a horrible thing…

As always, thank you to my loving wife for support, help, and understanding. I heart you.
Prints will remain available, and I will be updating the store with some more recent pics. If there isn’t one on there that
you’d like, just drop me a comment or an email.

2012 calendars will be available on my RedBubble site probably starting sometime in November.

Stay tuned to the blog here for upcoming contests, and more photos. I’m going to take a little break
for a while, and then probably start doing weekly(ish) photos again. After coming up with 730 ideas
my mind is a little tapped right now. Ha!

Thank you, again. Your enjoyment of this project made me see it through…again.
Make sure you watch the video linked above.
Best wishes,
~Dan

  1. OMG, I feel like day 365 creeped up on me. Every morning, I look forward to your photos and to think that tomorrow, I won’t get an email with your latest, well, that’s tragic. Thank you so much for all the smiles you’ve brought to my face. Your talent and creativity are, well, to put it bluntly, pure genius.

  6. Thanks for something to always looked forward to, every day. I see you have included quite a few minifigures in this photo, including Rachel. Wait, where’s Rachel’s blasters?

  7. Oh, and I just saw the Inspector, I wonder what he’d comment about the blue, whit, and yellow bricks. Glad to see hiker and the street skater (one of my favorite minifigures). There’s the fisherman, and the Viking, a Stormtrooper and two businessmen, and sooo much more. Great photo, it AWESOME!

Congratulations on another 365! Lucky for me, my daily dose of LEGO is only really beginning now that my son is old enough to really create with the smaller LEGO sets. We’ll be checking this blog for more, of course! Thanks for the fun. 🙂

  15. Don’t thank us, thank yourself. Your photos are just awesome, all of them. I hope my ones will be as good as yours someday.

I’ll be waiting for new uploads on Flickr or this blog! So don’t make this break too long, please. 🙂

  17. Since the time I stumbled upon your blog, which was about 6 months or so ago, I have awaited your posts as much as I have awaited sunrise. Your ideas are terrific, and even if they originate in someone else’s head, the way you manifest them through the LEGO bricks and minifigs is beyond brilliant. Your persistence is commendable, but the miniature photography too is one of the reasons why this blog / site has found a place in the hearts of us aficionados.

This has re-ignited my long lost love for LEGO bricks. Thanks for each and every post. Here’s wishing you a happy break, and whenever you return to enchant us again, here’s hoping I can suggest some ideas too! I’ll be eagerly watching this space.

  18. Well, It’s been said before by oithers, but thank you for the inspiration to do similar on my own site. I do hope that this won’t be the last time we will see Hiker, Inspector, Darth and the rest of your merry crew – but understand how challenging it is to keep coming up with ideas.

Have a great break – you’ve deserved it!
    Kindest regards
    David

  20. Thank you for another year! It will be an empty morning without a new excellent picture from your far away (from Germany) 365 day project. I love your ideas and the quality of your pics, and I love the way, you see LEGO. Please, take a deep breath, and then return as fast as you can! To this point, you only realized a vew hundred of many billion possible ideas ;-).

Thank you, and see you again!

Awwww, we’re going to miss a new pic each day. Glad you’ll still put some up here and there, though. I need to look through your categories, but do you have one of the hiker silhouetted in a sunset?

    August 1, 2011 at 10:48 am

  23. 365 already? More effort to make them than appreciate them for sure, but know that there are a LOT of us out here who really appreciate and looked forward to your contribution to our day. Fun stuff. Inspired stuff. I’ll miss it (but can appreciate your desire for a break). I’ll be checking back and see what products and such you’ve got going on.

    Cheers!

You know what you should do? You should sell 365-day calendars (those tear-off page-by-page/day-by-day kinds). I would LOVE to have one of those instead of a huge monthly calender. That way you could use all the pics from one year- or better yet, put two photos on each page and you can go over all 700+ of them!

  25. Trisha

Oh how I will miss my daily dose of Lego humor! There have been so many days your work has brought a smile and a calm perspective to my otherwise hectic life. Thank you so much for the hard work you have done over the year. I look forward to seeing the calendar and buying one 🙂
    Take care!

  26. This was a fun Lego year and I hope we can do this 365 day project again sometime. I’m going to miss not being able to come here every day for a fun little picture.

    August 1, 2011 at 2:27 pm

  27. Thanks everyone!
I can’t produce a 365 calendar – a company would have to do that and then the licensing and copyright issue comes into play – same reason I don’t have a photobook – yet. But, a fan suggested a publisher to me so I’m going to send them my idea and see what happens. So right now it’s just monthly/year calendars and prints/merchandise. But, hopefully in the future….

    • zach

i meant to be a space between he and done

      August 3, 2011 at 2:38 pm

      • a LEGO a Day is a 365 photo project, which means a picture a day for a year….with there being 365 days in a full year. So, as you can see, this day was day #365, thus ending the project.
