Hi.
I’m Dan, and I took a photo with a LEGO guy every day for an entire year. This blog chronicled that project.
I love LEGOs, and I love photography – so it only seemed natural to mix them.
For my other photography, please check out my Flickr page, here.

Thanks to G-off for the URL idea.
Why, oh why, wasn´t this my idea? So cool-funny.
I saw “A space odyssey” just a few nights ago so I
could appreciate the Monolith. But my kids, they just… What?!!
Hi! I am sending this to you from my DSi, so do not worry if it is spelled wrong. Anyway, how do you make you pictures so funny? Thanks
Hi webmaster!
Just stumbled upon your page and had to call my 6yo son in. He loves Legos and I think his little brain is working now, thinking about all the crazy things he could do with his legos. We’ll be checking back to see the rest of the pics.
He was sad to see that several of the pics weren’t working (they come up blank) like today’s picture. He wants to look at them again.
Thanks! There was a problem with the image servers earlier, but everything is back up and running now!
Very much enjoying your daily blog photos. Makes me laugh so keep up the good work!
I’m back. My 6yo son just came in and begged to see today’s picture. I realized after the last message that it was a server problem with the pictures…all of mine were gone as well. I also discovered your Flickr account just after posting that so we got to look at all the pictures there. Kudos for the great idea. You inspired my children.
After they saw your blog they took their Legos, dinosaurs and camera out to the back yard and were having an adventure and snapping pictures of all the action.
Hiho! LOVED Capsized this week! Set up is perfect and the water…crafty to create or lucky to catch it…just great. Really enjoying the series Dan.
Your site is rad. You possess a good eye for photography, the concept is very creative. I remember most of these sets!
Favorites: Frozen in ice, space odyssey, cutting down the tree, poker, beheaded warrior, and clue.
Hi! I just Love the idea and the execution. Your blog goes to my links. Keep up the good work
What a fantastic idea! I love it. The concept, the url, everything. I really got a kick at looking at all of your images. Great photography too. I can’t wait too see more.
Hope you don’t mind a honorable mention on my blog.
Thank you for your wonderful blog, I found it just when I really needed a laugh. I’ll definitely be back. Keep it up.
These are fabulous and I’m glad I found this site. I’ll be back.
And please consider making a calendar when you’re finished! I’d buy a bunch!!
My sons & I are loving these photos, & they’re especially fond of the Star Wars ones! We like your captions, too.
Briliant site. You’ve inspired me to add a “Site of the day” section on my blog! Check it out when you have time. http://www.terrylee.net/blog
Oh these are just wonderful — my kids just love checking it out each day — thanks for the laughs
Found you through a friend on Plurk.com and added you to my blogroll (http://gwenelle.wordpress.com/blogroll/). Such a fun, creative idea! I’ll be sure to check back often to see what’s new!
Very fun idea!! My kids love the legos too – and yep, have grabbed our little camera to have some fun of their own.
You have a fan here… great project and photos.
I think this is a very cool idea. I’m gonna try it out my self, and
keep up the good work!
i love love love your project!
This is an awesome blog. Keep up the work. Your creativity is awesome. It’s one thing to pledge to take a photo a day, but it’s another to show as much creativity behind each photo as you do.
Thanks everyone for the kind words
Just found your site, put a smile on my face. I love it, subscribed to your feed.
Thanks for the smile

i came across your blog using Stumble! I think you will find that your project will be popular because of your focus and simplicity. I love your ideas and I will keep watching in the days to come. By the way I featured your work on my blog http://chepchumba.wordpress.com and set up a link to your site. Keep up the great work!
greetings from switzerland! I just came across your blog today and had to leave a message to say that I really had a lot of fun “flipping through the pages” of your blog. Your pics are full of creativity and humor! I surely will be visiting your site on a regular basis !
Our family loves your site. So fun to check every day to see what you came up with.
Fort Worth Lobsingers
Hey,
I’m a little frenchy, I love playing with a camera and Legos too.
All you made is amasing, your pictures are so funny…
Thanks for all that.
Matth
Always enjoy your Lego guys!!! My personal favorite (so far) is the Burger King “prop” So clever, so funny. If you had a calendar we would buy it. Seems like a lot of legal mumbo junmbo. I hope you never tire of taking the photos, or the Lego figures rebel against you. LOL, We tell many people about you and have even marked you as a favorite on our local Apple store’s computers, iphones and ipod touches!!!! You are famous.
I also love Lego and just bought this hoodie from headhoods.com. I love it!

Are you willing to sell some of these images? For private use. My son is crazy about the “gonna need a bigger boat” pic and I would love to frame it for his room. Thx, the whole family loves this site.
When I have completed the 365, I will be making a photobook containing all of the photos, as well as hopefully sell each print individually – the good ones anyway – or any by specific request. I need to work out legal issues with LEGO before I sell anything. I know it’s a long time to wait, but please understand! Thank you! and Thanks for checking!
Thanks for the response. The boys and I are really enjoying the website.
Thats a great idea!
I also love lego and make photo-stories with these figures
I can never come up with a subject for my lego photos. Where do you get your inspiration?
a deranged mind and a lot of free time.
a deranged mind? cool
First let me say this blog is awesome! I love your creativity, both photographic and with the Lego scenes. If I may be so bold, here’s an idea for a future picture: Have you thought of combining the “little” Lego with some of the “Big” Lego designed for toddlers? My daughter turned 1 last month and I just “had” to get her her first set of Lego. It got me to thinking, those little Lego guys on your blog would really have some fun with a “larger than life” sized block! Hopefully you have a friend with kids who could loan you some BIG Lego blocks.
Hello, my blog has go through a big change and the address has changed as well, please update “360 Degrees” link to http://blog.3dfs.ca
Thanks
Vic
These never cease to entertain me. Keep up the great work!
Great idea – Loves LEGO too, check my kids LEGO travel blog here:

I love it! have added the link to all my sent mail. Many people have commented on it. Can’t wait to see you some late night show somewhere!
Hi;
We’re checking out your pictures from Alberta, Canada. Great job, can’t wait to see more pictures!
this is very creative idea. What a cool blog
Your lego figures take me back to my own childhood, spending hours building whatever came to mind.
I think I had some of the same sets as you have – the pirates are particularly familiar.
I love your site. I regret that I didn’t find it from the beginning. Keep it up
whoa! GREAT idea!! ;p
I’ll be showing my 6 yr old son this as soon as he gets home from Kindy. I am sure he’s going to be enamored. Thanks for sharing your creativity!
Love it! What a clever idea. I found your photos on flickr while searching for pictures of Lego cookies. Your blog is now bookmarked and I’ve passed the link on to friends. Nice work.
I found your photos on Flickr and am about to ‘mark the blog. Keep up the good work! *Respeck Knuckles*
hey do you mind if I set up a thing like this, its not completely like this but I just wanted to show lego photos inspired by your creations and I even made up a hiker/traveler but more of a traveller with a bakpak like the hikers and a backpack.
you’re of course free to do whatever you like! Only thing I would ask is that you please give me credit where it is necessary (link to this site, or something to that effect). Please no derivative works from my images without credit to the original, etc.
Thanks!
very nice photography and the witty comments add to the depth
keep it up!
legomyphoto.wordpress.com – now in my rss reader)))
I just wanted to let you know that I have added you to my Blog roll on my site Common Man Thinks. I hope you are okay with it.

Your photos are awesome. Love them!
Just wanted to say thank you for the inspiration! I linked earlier this year when my son and I found your blog. He was inspired to photograph his own scene for homemade birthday party invitations.
You can take a peek here:

(Would have emailed, but could not find contact info.)
I just found your site, and I spent a good amount of time looking through all the old posts and laughing out loud.
I just have to admit: the Storm Troopers are so CUTE!
I second that, I had a good half hour look before my lunch break was over. Cool stuff and a good inspiration!
Okay, I’m so behind the times….FINALLY found your blog and LOVE IT! Cannot wait to show my 6 year old who will then continue to bother me 24 hours a day about visiting your blog to see all the great things you’ve done. I think it’s a shame that Lego does not authorize, sponsor, or endorse your site. They absolutely should!
I am a 43 yo mum from Sydney Australia who has loved lego all her life. This is by far the coolest thing I have seen! BRILLIANT
Keep up the great work! I get busy and miss a while but love catching up. I am so impressed that you continue to shine with this project. Congratulations!
This is hilarious!
Really funny blog. How do you make one?
I am loving your sense of humor. Pictures are great too.
In a little over an hour I’ll be picking up my 9 year old from school. I guarantee he’ll spend an insane amount of time at your blog and then he’ll try to mimic with his own legos. Guess I’ll have to hand over my old point and shoot… And if he doesn’t (which I doubt) I may have to myself. I buy my boys legos because I am the one who loves them… thankfully they have their mothers dork qualities that make us all so endearing
Just found your blog. What a wonderful concept. I’ll be back to check out more of your photos!
My friend sent me the link, knowing how much my family enjoys LOGO’s (and how much I love photography). I absolutely love the compositions, the picture quality and most of all the great captures! I think you had a brilliant idea when you started this blog.
Thanks for making my day!
Hi, I’m Blake, I’m 9 years old and I love lego’s too!
I love making videos of my lego guys and have lots of them on YouTube.
Lately I’ve started taking photos and making stop-motion videos. You should check some out!

Just found your site and LOVE it! My 7 yr old has been hooked on Lego’s since he was 3 yrs old. He loves the Wheel of Fourtune picture the best!
Keep up the great work!
brilliant! love the pictures, but love your witty commentary even more
what an inventive, fun sight! you really have hit on something here. of course my 7 year old and my 39 year old husband are addicted to legos and look at your sight everday. thx!!!
So what happens after 365 days? It should be 365 years!
You are cool,Dave! Since I am only a kid, I want to do something like you. So, I have a camera and I took a pic of my lego guy in money. You should do that!
Do you mind if I start my own lego photography site? I will site where I got the idea and everything, I just want your permission.
Mr Phelps, I am doing what you do so can you give me some tips? I want my photos to be funny.
Hey! Bob, we’re doin’ the same thin’!
I love your site. Keep it up !
of course, you are entitled to begin whatever site you desire! i know i am certainly not the only person to ever do this. i just wanted to share! you may do as you wish. i can’t give you tips on making your photos funny – it all depends on the way you look at life, situations, and what kind of imagination you have.
good luck!
Thanks! I’ll let you know when I start the site!
I was wondering if you’d consider doing a scene that’s a tribute to the Flood Fight going on in Fargo, ND There’s certainly a lot of material to draw from….
Its awsome that your a teacher in my grade, in my favorite subject! Why did’nt you become a photagropher if you love taking photos of Legos? I hope you and Annies relationship works out!
The Storm Troopers need their own movie. I’m loving this site everyday more and more.
Just found your blog through stumbleupon. great work! I love it.
grown adult woman sitting in her open office space in her church giggling… your humor is so appreciated, as well as your creativity! i have a huge bag of duplos and legos waiting for future grandchildren and my 31 year old son has bookmarked your site as i have. can’t wait for the book!
I have been following your site for a long, long time now. Kudos on the great work and for the shout out you got today on Shine.

Now that’s what I call a photography project… and free advertisement for the Lego company
I teach grades 5-6-7-8 gifted and I just showed all my classes your website–they are cracking up!!!! They are smart enough to get many of the captions–so funny to watch them “get it”!!! They especially liked the Narnia one and the “bad day to be a stormtrooper” one. My own sons are 8 and 10 and HUGE lego boys–they loved it too!!! thanks for such an offbeat fun thing!!!
dana
It is traditional amongst the AFOL community to show appreciation for a LEGO blog or webcomic by sending a gift of LEGO to the artist. You don’t seem to have covered this option in your blog anywhere. Perhaps you could add it to you FAQ?
This is hilarious! But also really good art. Keep it coming
This is a really neat idea. I’m doing something similar with a Troll doll. You can read about it in my blog. I’ll definitely be back!
Oh dear – why have I only just discovered this? I loved lego as a kid and my son is now a real lego addict – I’ll have to show him!
My 6 year old son is going to be disappointed when the 365th day is here. He looks forward to our photos and has even tried to take some of his own. He used to just play with the bricks and build and now you have spurred his imagination to include the mini figures in his play. Thank you!
IS IT OVER NOW!!
( thats too bad
Hey, I read your blog every day.
Could you link to me at Indexed.tk if I link to you?
These are just wonderful! I ‘ll bet you are a great elementary teacher!
Thanks for the fun!
Too cool. I see in your FAQs a lot of people do “365″s but this is the first I’ve come across. And its fun; thanks.
do a search on flickr and you’ll find oodles and oodles. the majority of them will be self-portrait 365s. these are usually full of overly photoshopped photos. personally, I find them boring.
if i’m following or doing a 365, i’d want to see something different every day.
Hey, awesome blog! I enjoyed it! Real dedication!
Hi,
Enjoyed your site very much. Your photo’s have inspired to take some holiday pictures the same way when I’m holiday next month. Blending the minifigs into the real world.
Too bad you’re done now…
I like your work!,
Hi
I have a 4 year old son and a box of Lego since he was 2 but he rarely plays with it. I have never had any Lego as a child and I am not very creative with it. How to encourage him? I think playing with Lego is a fantastic thing!
Just found your blog, and you have outdone yourself!! We are enjoying every single one!! Thank you. #353 is too much – just the thought of those 2 faces!
Hi Dan,
I’d love to link you to my blog and put some of your photos on there (credited, of course) can I do that? Again – awesome work!
Love your work… found it a little after the fact -but it’s still great! Hope the book goes well… can’t imagine that it wouldn’t!
Yes, that is fine. As long as they are credited and point back to this site please!
Thanks!
I am your #1 fan!
Hi
You are a very fine Lego artist, and I want to be as good as you. Can you please do another year? I think your Lego pictures are very fine, and I get new ideas all the time. E.g I have been inspired by the storm-troopers wardrobe and the weight-lifters.
Greetings from Norway, Elias (9)
Elias, thanks for stopping by and I’m glad you’re inspired! I don’t have the ability to do another year right now – just don’t have the time!
Maybe soon I will do another project.
Stay warm!
