Hi.
I’m Dan, and I took a photo with a LEGO guy every day for an entire year. This blog chronicled that project.
I love LEGOs, and I love photography – so it only seemed natural to mix them.

For my other photography, please check out my Flickr page, here.

Why, oh why, wasn´t this my idea? So cool-funny.

I saw “A space odyssey” just a few nights ago so I
could appreciate the Monolith. But my kids, they just… What?!!

Hi! I am sending this to you from my DSi, so do not worry if it is spelled wrong. Anyway, how do you make you pictures so funny? Thanks

  2. 4 justanotherjen July 20, 2008 at 4:28 pm

Just stumbled upon your page and had to call my 6yo son in. He loves Legos and I think his little brain is working now, thinking about all the crazy things he could do with his legos. We’ll be checking back to see the rest of the pics.

He was sad to see that several of the pics weren’t working (they come up blank) like today’s picture. He wants to look at them again.

  3. 5 mrphelps July 20, 2008 at 10:14 pm

Thanks! There was a problem with the image servers earlier, but everything is back up and running now!

  4. 6 jasonmarkwebber July 21, 2008 at 8:31 am

Very much enjoying your daily blog photos. Makes me laugh so keep up the good work!

  5. 7 justanotherjen July 21, 2008 at 6:31 pm

I’m back. My 6yo son just came in and begged to see today’s picture. I realized after the last message that it was a server problem with the pictures…all of mine were gone as well. I also discovered your Flickr account just after posting that so we got to look at all the pictures there. Kudos for the great idea. You inspired my children.

After they saw your blog they took their Legos, dinosaurs and camera out to the back yard and were having an adventure and snapping pictures of all the action.

  6. 8 Deb July 22, 2008 at 5:20 pm

Hiho! LOVED Capsized this week! Set up is perfect and the water…crafty to create or lucky to catch it…just great. Really enjoying the series Dan.

Your site is rad. You possess a good eye for photography, the concept is very creative. I remember most of these sets!

Always enjoy your Lego guys!!! My personal favorite (so far) is the Burger King “prop” So clever, so funny. If you had a calendar we would buy it. Seems like a lot of legal mumbo junmbo. I hope you never tire of taking the photos, or the Lego figures rebel against you. LOL, We tell many people about you and have even marked you as a favorite on our local Apple store’s computers, iphones and ipod touches!!!! You are famous.

  28. 30 Justin Fox September 18, 2008 at 6:05 pm

I also love Lego and just bought this hoodie from headhoods.com. I love it!

  29. 31 Holly L September 29, 2008 at 4:12 pm

Are you willing to sell some of these images? For private use. My son is crazy about the “gonna need a bigger boat” pic and I would love to frame it for his room. Thx, the whole family loves this site.

  30. 32 mrphelps September 29, 2008 at 4:43 pm

When I have completed the 365, I will be making a photobook containing all of the photos, as well as hopefully sell each print individually – the good ones anyway – or any by specific request. I need to work out legal issues with LEGO before I sell anything. I know it’s a long time to wait, but please understand! Thank you! and Thanks for checking!

  31. 33 Holly L October 5, 2008 at 3:46 pm

Thanks for the response. The boys and I are really enjoying the website.

  32. 34 wortman October 11, 2008 at 6:59 pm

  33. 35 Bob October 31, 2008 at 8:00 pm

I can never come up with a subject for my lego photos. Where do you get your inspiration?

  34. 36 mrphelps October 31, 2008 at 10:24 pm

a deranged mind and a lot of free time.

  35. 38 Jason November 7, 2008 at 12:49 am

First let me say this blog is awesome! I love your creativity, both photographic and with the Lego scenes. If I may be so bold, here’s an idea for a future picture: Have you thought of combining the “little” Lego with some of the “Big” Lego designed for toddlers? My daughter turned 1 last month and I just “had” to get her her first set of Lego. It got me to thinking, those little Lego guys on your blog would really have some fun with a “larger than life” sized block! Hopefully you have a friend with kids who could loan you some BIG Lego blocks.

you’re of course free to do whatever you like! Only thing I would ask is that you please give me credit where it is necessary (link to this site, or something to that effect). Please no derivative works from my images without credit to the original, etc.

I just found your site, and I spent a good amount of time looking through all the old posts and laughing out loud.

I just have to admit: the Storm Troopers are so CUTE! :)

  58. 62 Nick March 3, 2009 at 7:24 am

I second that, I had a good half hour look before my lunch break was over. Cool stuff and a good inspiration!

  59. 63 Katie March 3, 2009 at 9:20 am

Okay, I’m so behind the times….FINALLY found your blog and LOVE IT! Cannot wait to show my 6 year old who will then continue to bother me 24 hours a day about visiting your blog to see all the great things you’ve done. I think it’s a shame that Lego does not authorize, sponsor, or endorse your site. They absolutely should!

  60. 64 Diane March 3, 2009 at 7:17 pm

I am a 43 yo mum from Sydney Australia who has loved lego all her life. This is by far the coolest thing I have seen! BRILLIANT

Really funny blog. How do you make one?

  64. 68 Jenny In Illlinois March 12, 2009 at 1:54 pm

I am loving your sense of humor. Pictures are great too.

In a little over an hour I’ll be picking up my 9 year old from school. I guarantee he’ll spend an insane amount of time at your blog and then he’ll try to mimic with his own legos. Guess I’ll have to hand over my old point and shoot… And if he doesn’t (which I doubt) I may have to myself. I buy my boys legos because I am the one who loves them… thankfully they have their mothers dork qualities that make us all so endearing

  65. 69 Abbie March 13, 2009 at 11:53 am

Just found your blog. What a wonderful concept. I’ll be back to check out more of your photos!

  66. 70 Kseniya March 13, 2009 at 4:11 pm

    good luck!

  78. 85 Suzie March 30, 2009 at 4:49 pm

I was wondering if you’d consider doing a scene that’s a tribute to the Flood Fight going on in Fargo, ND There’s certainly a lot of material to draw from….

  89. 96 Aussiechef67 April 26, 2009 at 5:42 am

It is traditional amongst the AFOL community to show appreciation for a LEGO blog or webcomic by sending a gift of LEGO to the artist. You don’t seem to have covered this option in your blog anywhere. Perhaps you could add it to you FAQ?

  90. 97 BWC May 2, 2009 at 5:59 am

This is hilarious! But also really good art. Keep it coming :)

  91. 98 thirdgradeaunt May 4, 2009 at 4:14 pm

This is a really neat idea. I’m doing something similar with a Troll doll. You can read about it in my blog. I’ll definitely be back!

  92. 99 tintocktap May 5, 2009 at 11:09 am

Oh dear – why have I only just discovered this? I loved lego as a kid and my son is now a real lego addict – I’ll have to show him!

  93. 100 Lego Fan's Mom May 6, 2009 at 1:20 am

My 6 year old son is going to be disappointed when the 365th day is here. He looks forward to our photos and has even tried to take some of his own. He used to just play with the bricks and build and now you have spurred his imagination to include the mini figures in his play. Thank you!

  97. 104 laurel June 8, 2009 at 11:58 am

Too cool. I see in your FAQs a lot of people do “365″s but this is the first I’ve come across. And its fun; thanks.

    • 105 mrphelps June 8, 2009 at 4:48 pm

do a search on flickr and you’ll find oodles and oodles. the majority of them will be self-portrait 365s. these are usually full of overly photoshopped photos. personally, I find them boring.
if i’m following or doing a 365, i’d want to see something different every day.

  98. 106 innocentbelle June 15, 2009 at 12:23 pm

    Hi
I have a 4 year old son and a box of Lego since he was 2 but he rarely plays with it. I have never had any Lego as a child and I am not very creative with it. How to encourage him? I think playing with Lego is a fantastic thing!

    Hi

You are a very fine Lego artist, and I want to be as good as you. Can you please do another year? I think your Lego pictures are very fine, and I get new ideas all the time. E.g I have been inspired by the storm-troopers wardrobe and the weight-lifters.

    Greetings from Norway, Elias (9)

Elias, thanks for stopping by and I’m glad you’re inspired! I don’t have the ability to do another year right now – just don’t have the time!
Maybe soon I will do another project.
    Stay warm!
