actually, no. i took it to the apple store, and it booted fine, and after doing a few diagnostics, they said nothing was wrong with it. i used it for a few hours saturday, sunday, and a little today, with no problems. I’m totally mind boggled. thing wouldn’t even boot before! and the awful sounds. gah. So, uh, i guess i’ll just keep using it until it’s second wind expires. after that, i am going to replace the HD myself – i looked it up and its simple.
Are you sure you only want to do this for a year? Not maybe 2 years? Or the rest of your life?

oh, also, they said my laptop is “Vintage” and they don’t supply parts for it anymore anyway, so there isn’t anything Apple could do anyway.
